Metro Market and Pick n Save are two smaller supermarket chains in the United States. Both sell similar types of products to similar demographics. If you are deciding on which one to shop at, you may be wondering which one is better.
To help you answer this question, I took a look at price and quality for both stores to see which one is better for you.
Which is Better: Metro Market or Pick n Save? Pick n Save is cheaper than Metro Market, and also has higher quality products, according to the FDA.
Is Metro Market Cheaper Than Pick n Save?
The price of products is one of the biggest concerns that most shoppers have when picking between supermarkets. So when looking at Metro Market and Pick n Save, which one has cheaper options.
I took a look at the most commonly purchased store brand items and compared their prices to one another. Below is the average prices for each shopping category based on related store brand items.
Category | Metro Market Brand | Pick n Save Brand |
Beverages | ✓ | |
Baking Goods | ✓ | |
Canned Goods | ✓ | ✓ |
Dairy | ✓ | |
Dry Goods | ✓ | ✓ |
Frozen Foods | ✓ | |
Personal Care | ✓ | ✓ |
Cleaners | ✓ | |
Pick n Save is anywhere from 4% to 7% cheaper than Metro Market.
However, it should be noted that Metro Market does offer better deals on dairy products. Additionally, both stores offer the same prices on canned goods, dry goods, and personal care items. It is safe to say that while there are price differences between these stores, you are likely going to spend the same amount of money at each.
To give you a better idea of what this price comparison looks like, I created a bar chart that shows each store’s prices next to one another.
As you can see the prices are quite similar for both stores (with the exception of dairy products). Typically, most stores in the industry have quite substantial price differences, but these are much more similar than most other stores.
So if you are a price conscious shopper, then you are likely going to save the most money at Pick n Save. However, you’ll likely spend close to the same amount at Metro Market.
Product Quality: Metro Market vs Pick n Save
The quality of products are also a big factor of consideration for most shoppers. Customers want to know that what they are buying is safe to use and consume. So, I took a look at the FDA’s product recall database to find out which store has had more product recalls.
The store with more product recalls is likely to be the one that has lower quality products.

Metro Market has 12 product recalls whereas Pick n Save only has 10. While both of these numbers are low compared to the industry average, Pick n Save has slightly less.
What we can infer from this is that pic and save has slightly higher quality products in comparison. So, if you are someone who prefers higher quality products, then Pick n Save is right for you.
